my kitten and the thriller dance?
July 14th, 2009 Posted by: admin
I was dancing around my living room and singing a song to my kitten which was very much like thriller with the words changed and I did this sort of dance towards my kitten where I threw my hands up and did this sort of “jazz hands” type thing. okay, so then my kitten jumped up on her tippy toes, stuck her hair up and ran sideways at me. I had a cat do this before when I was sliding around the kitchen in my socks doing another “dance”.
I started thinking that when I do the jazz hands i’m kind of making myself appear bigger. Do you think kitty sticks her fur up to look bigger because i’m making myself look bigger? If not, why does she do this? Was she trying to impress me with her stellar dance moves? Because if she was then it totally worked. I wish she would do it again but now all she wants to do is play with a styrofoam peanut:-(.

You might have scared her for a minute so she did the “I’m really a big mean cat” look. She figured out you were just playing and doesn’t scare so easily now.

She saw you jumping around and she was playing. Kittens will arch up and lift their front paws in the air and then move sideways. I’m sure you got a real kick out of it. Kittens are so fun as they have this abundance of energy.

That sounds awfully cute =)
It does sound like what you are describing was her response to you being ‘loud’ moving erraticly and making the ‘jazz hands’ to look bigger, all of those would be considered threatening in kitty language. Since you were in a playful mood at the time she was probably confused by your signals, and decided a ‘mock attack’ would be her best approach to the situation. After your repeated displays of stellar dance moves, she decided that you were not threatening after all, and besides that, kittens have short attention spans, you can’t keep there attention by doing the same thing over and over. Then she saw the peanut and she was off!
I heart kittens =)
